Probably not the best built item on the planet; it is not a heavy piece, and the wood is quite thin. Think, like, those old balsa-wood toy airplane gliders, and you know how easy those were to snap! Alright, it's not THAT thin, but it IS very thin. I wouldn't sit on it or allow children to climb on it, or place anything heavy like a TV or anything on it, as I don't believe it could take much weight. But it definitely is an aesthetically pleasing piece and compliments my medium oak and brown leather-like furniture beautifully. It pulls the room together. And since my living room is not used all that often, and is NEVER used as a rec room or play room (we have an adult household), it will suit my purpose just fine. Be aware that the trunk "lid" does not lift; instead, there is a drawer in the front (extending between buckles in the picture) that pulls out with the leather "handle". It is quite deep and wide, and if you are looking to store several smaller items it will be sufficient, but if you are looking for a true chest to store blankets or large items, this will not be your choice. I might wish that the wood was more solid and that the lid was hinged and lifted like a real trunk for more usable storage space (who couldn't use more storage space???), but those are perhaps the only drawbacks, and if you can live with that, and are prepared to take reasonable care around the item due to its construction, then you will be as happy with your purchase as I am. Also, it is a fairly large piece, so if your room is very tiny, you may want something that isn't so imposing.
