5A very firm couch, nice leather feel - "gray" is a bit of a reach though
By Naomi (Storm)
I picked up this BH Design loveseat on Amazon because I needed another chair for my guests to sit on - it should be noted that when I picked it up, Amazon was listing it for around four hundred dollars, not the nearly nine hundred it is listed as, at the time of this review. For the price I picked it up at, this loveseat was a no-brainer. The material is listed as "top grain leather," and the smell when it arrived would seem to confirm this. Only the actual "seat/gray" parts are leather however, the black areas of the couch are actually vinyl. Other than the faint leather smell, this couch did not have any offensive odors when it arrived. The leather smell was nice, but not overwhelming. The finish of the leather is smooth, but not slick. The most surprising thing was the feel of the cushions. Instead of being "fluffy" like most loveseat nowadays, the seat is actually very firm. The company who makes this loveseat - Beverly Hills Design (model: 117) states that the loveseat uses coils, which would explain the stiffer feel. I actually like the way it sits, much more support than your normal couch. You do have to do a bit of home installation when you receive the loveseat. The legs are hidden in a zip pocket on the underside of the chair - you have to screw these in with the supplied woodscrews. There was only one predrilled hole, so the rest will have to be done by way of elbow grease (or, in my case, a cordless drill). The legs feel very sturdy after installed. As far as the actual delivery, I know this will probably differ from person to person, but the cargo company gave me a call that they received the shipment from Amazon and wanted to know when I could be home to accept the delivery. They gave me a date that was about 3 days from the call. Their deliveryman was on-time and courteous - the loveseat was unwrapped at delivery, the packaging was very good, no scratches, knicks, or any visible damage that I could find. The delivery man did take the wrapping away with him, and probably would have helped me place the chair in its final destination, but I opted to do that myself. The loveseat is not super heavy and I did not have a problem maneuvering it into position by myself. My only gripe with the chair is that the color "gray" isn't really a good description of the lighter color. It's gray in the way that it's "not white or black", almost as if someone dropped a single droplet of paint into the white paint bucket. It's sort of an off-white, eggshell-gray tone. Also, the stuffing in the armrests have already started to go a bit flat from use. You can easily "refluff" them back into shape, but it's a temporary fix. I really haven't found a solution to this with any of these types of armrests though, so I suppose it's to be expected.I was torn between four and five stars for this loveseat - really my only issues with the loveseat are very small so I opted for the full five, but if I had the option for a 4.5, that's where this would sit.
